HBO Renewed 'Boardwalk Empire'

HBO has renewed its sophomore crime drama 'Boardwalk Empire' for a third season.

This seems a bit premature with only three episodes aired since its September 25 season premiere. The first season started it out promising with over four million viewers but the season one finale barely hit three million viewers.

Here is a breakdown of the already aired episodes:
01 - 21 - 2.91 million viewers
02 - Ourselves Alone - 2.59 million viewers
03 - A Dangerous Maid - 2.86 million viewers

This season premiere has lost almost two million viewers but HBO has given the early pickup because this past January 'Boardwalk Empire' picked up two Golden Globe awards including Best Television Series and Best Actor for Steve Buscemi. When a series receives Best Television Series, it's very unlikely that a show won't be renewed.
