'Harry Potter' Becomes Biggest Franchise

By Brandon Gray:

On Wednesday, Deathly Hallows Part 2 racked up another $35.2 million, bringing its foreign haul to $425.3 million. Add in domestic, and it's made $640.2 million worldwide, surpassing Fast Five to become the third highest-grossing movie of 2011 so far. That also means the final Potter struck the $600 million worldwide mark in record time. It took just eight days, compared toTransformers: Dark of the Moon's 11-day run andPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides's 12-day run. As a whole, the Harry Potter franchise heralded another milestone: it hit the $7 billion mark. It's been the top-grossing franchise globally since the sixth movie, Half-Blood Prince.

Domestic Report: On Wednesday, Harry Potter edged out Star Wars to become the top-grossing franchise of all time. The eight Potter movies have accumulated $2.223 billion, compared to $2.218 billion for Star Wars. They're also the only two franchises to have crossed the $2 billion mark, though James Bond and Batman would join the party when adjusted for ticket price inflation.

This past week Warner Brothers released two more movie posters to go along with the first one sheet released last week. It will star Paz De La Huerta from 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Enter The Void' fame. It will revolve around Abby Russell, a beautiful, dedicated nurse with a sinister side, and a secret life's work in which she targets and punishes dishonest men.

The film has no official release date yet, but summer 2012 seems likely. It begins shooting in Toronto on September 6.

'Dream House' Gets a Poster

'Dream House' is an upcoming horror film directed by Jim Sheridan.

It stars Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz and will be distributed by Universal Pictures and Morgan Creek Productions.

Harry Potter Soars Past $200M

By Brandon Gray

On Tuesday, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 rocketed past the $200 million mark in just five days. The only other movies to hit $200 million in five days were The Dark Knight and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Though its total climbed to a whopping $202.6 million, Deathly Hallows Part 2 didn't break the five-day opening gross record. It fell short of The Dark Knight's $203.8 million five-day haul, ranking second on the all-time five-day chart. Normalized for ticket-price inflation, Deathly Hallows Part 2 would drop to ninth.

Deathly Hallows Part 2's $15.4 million Tuesday was the fifth-highest grossing non-opening Tuesday everThe Dark Knight still holds that record with $20.9 million, though both movies had Monday-to-Tuesday drops of around 15 percent.

As a franchise, Harry Potter has generated $2.211 billion, and, on Wednesday, it should edge out Star Wars's $2.218 billion to become the top-grossing franchise of all time (despite trailing by a massive margin in terms of estimated attendance).

At the foreign box office, Deathly Hallows Part 2 raked in a spectacular $34 million on Tuesday, lifting its total to $390 million. Factor in its domestic results, and the movie had a $49.3 million Tuesday worldwide for a $592.6 million worldwide total. It leap-frogged over Kung Fu Panda 2 and The Hangover Part II to become the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2011 so far, and it will surpass Fast Five on Wednesday.

Harry Potter Makes Movie History

By Brandon Gray

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soared into the record books with the highest-grossing opening weekend ever. The series finale drew $169.2 million on around 11,100 screens at 4,375 locations, dethroning The Dark Knight's $158.4 million.

Deathly Hallows Part 2's first weekend flew past the previous franchise high of $125 million, posted by Deathly Hallows Part 1 last November, and it topped the franchise in terms of estimated attendance as well. While its opening gross also out-distanced The Dark KnightSpider-Man 3($151.1 million), The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8 million), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest($135.6 million) and the first Spider-Man ($114.8 million), Deathly Hallows Part 2's estimated opening attendance was less than those titles, ranking sixth overall.

After conjuring the opening day record of $91.1 million on Friday (buoyed by a record-shattering $43.5 million midnight launch), Deathly Hallows Part 2 saw the steepest Friday-to-Saturday drop on record for a non-holiday first weekend, falling 53 percent to $42.4 million. Its Saturday slotted ninth among the top-grossing Saturdays of all time. On Sunday, it declined 16 percent to $35.7 million, which ranked fourth on the all-time Sunday grosses chart.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked Harry Potter's first foray into 3D, and it made a splash with the broadest 3D launch ever (3,100-plus locations, including 274 in IMAX). However, the majority of moviegoers still opted to see the movie in the standard ("2D") format. 3D accounted for 43 percent of the gross, which was a lower share than Transformers: Dark of the Moon's 60 percent at the same point but in the ballpark of most of this summer's other big movies. Still, at an estimated $72.8 million, that translated to the second biggest-grossing 3D opening yet, behind Alice in Wonderland (2010)'s $81.3 million. In IMAX alone, Deathly Hallows Part 2 delivered the top-grossing start ever, generating $15.2 million versus Alice's second-place $12.2 million.

The 63rd Emmy Award Nominations

The 63rd annual Emmy Awards will be presented on September 18, 2011 and will be hosted by Jane Lynch.

The Emmy Award Nominations were just announced and I will be letting you all know who I would like to see win by using a (*).

Drama Series:
- Boardwalk Empire
- The Good Wife*
- Mad Men
- Friday Night Lights
- Dexter
- Game of Thrones
* This past season of The Good Wife was absolutely brilliant, not sure how but it topped the fantastic first season.

Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
- Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men)
- Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights)
- Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit)
- Mireille Enos (The Killing)
- Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)*
- Kathy Bates (Harry's Law)
* Julianna Margulies was brilliant this past season, like the show, she was even better this season.

Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
- Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire)
- Michael C. Hall (Dexter)*
- Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights)
- Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
- Hugh Laurie (House)
- Timothy Olyphant (Justified)
* I will always love Dexter, which means I will always vote for Michael C. Hall.

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
- Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire)
- Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)
- Michelle Forbes (The Killing)
- Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife)*
- Margo Martindale (Justified)
- Christine Baranski (The Good Wife)
* I love both Archie and Christine on The Good Wife, but Archie Panjabi's character showed a completely different side this past season.

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
- John Slattery (Mad Men)
- Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age)
- Walton Goggins (Justified)
- Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones)

Comedy Series:
- Glee
- Parks and Recreation
- The Office
- Modern Family*
- 30 Rock
- The Big Bang Theory
* I love Glee but this past season was off and on. It felt more like it was about the guest stars instead of the core cast.

- Laura Linney (The Big C)
- Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)
- Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreations)
- Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly)
- Marsha Plimpton (Raising Hope)

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
- Matt LeBlanc (Episodes)
- Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)
- Steve Carell (The Office)
- Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory)
- Louis C.K. (Louie)

* 30 Rock was great this past season, a complete step up from season 4. Alec Baldwin in particular was perfect.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
- Jane Lynch (Glee)
- Betty White (Hot in Cleveland)
- Julie Bowen (Modern Family)
- Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)
- Jane Krakowski (30 Rock)

- Chris Colfer (Glee)*
- Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)
- Ed O'Neill (Modern Family)
- Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family)
