Metric Finally Ready 2 Release 4th Album

Metric will release their fourth studio album, "Fantasies" on April 14, 2009.

"Fantasies" is currently being promoted by lead single "Help! I'm Alive" which has currently cracked the top 30 on the Canadian Hot 100. The video will premiere on February 6, 2009. The album will be released by "Last Gang Records" in Canada and independently in the USA.

The decision to self-release the album was not one the band took lightly. "We've wrestled with our situation over the course of the last three albums, trying to find the right deal," manager Mathieu Drouin told Billboard last summer. "We found ourselves in a position where the majors were interested, but we knew we had the ability to roll the dice and do it ourselves."

"'Long tail' artists like Metric that have been able to develop a following and career without major help are in the best position to take things into their own hands right now," he added. "We can make more money on a smaller volume overall if we are doing everything ourselves."

There is no other information regarding Part 2 besides the release date. The release date could still be changed because of her pregnancy. Let's hope it really is released next month!

Kelly Makes History With #1 Single

Kelly Clarkson will make history on this week's Billboard Hot 100, to be posted tomorrow (Jan. 29) on Billboard.com, with the largest leap to No. 1 in the chart's 50-year history.

Her new single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," is set to rocket 97-1 after selling 280,000 digital downloads in its first week of availability. The song is also faring well at radio, jumping 58-38 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and 27-18 on the Mainstream Top 40 list.

"My Life" introduces Clarkson's March 17 RCA album "All I Ever Wanted." This is the second time the artist has set the record for largest jump to No. 1. She took her "American Idol" victory song, "A Moment Like This," 52-1 on the chart dated October 5, 2002.

That mark lasted nearly five years until Maroon 5 soared 64-1 with "Makes Me Wonder" in May 2007 and had been broken four more times since, most recently by Britney Spears' "Womanizer" (96-1).

"My Life" is Clarkson's first No. 1 since her debut single, though she has placed six other songs in the top 10 during this time, including the No. 2-peaking "Since U Been Gone" in April 2005.

"Never Again", the first single from her last set, the relatively poor performing "My December," opened at No. 8 on the Hot 100 in the May 5, 2007, issue, starting with 107,000 downloads, and spending a total of two weeks in the top 10.

The Matrix Finally Releases Debut Album

One of the great lost albums of the early '00s pop era, pairing the hottest production trio with an aspiring singer, has emerged from the dark abyss where it's been hidden for years. The self-titled debut from the Matrix, featuring Katy Perry back in 2002, dropped on iTunes on Tuesday (January 27).

Coincidentally, the album comes out just as Perry is in the midst of a career-making debut solo tour in support of her smash One of the Boys album. "To be honest, we had a much earlier release date planned," Matrix member Lauren Christy told MTV News.

But release dates came and went, and the album was quietly shelved in late 2004, because they didn't want the strains of publicity to distract from their production duties. The trio later parted ways with their manager, but when they re-upped with him last year, they brought up the album again "as a kind of celebration," Christy said. "We said, 'Let's release the Matrix album, because it's a great album.' "

Since the band had retrieved the rights to the disc after Columbia Records didn't release it, the plan was to put the effort out on their own label, Let's Hear It Records, last year.

"We had the dates set up with iTunes ... and then 'I Kissed a Girl' exploded," Christy said. "I spoke to Katy about it, and she wanted to wait until the fourth single off her album was released."

The Matrix album, which also features little-known British act Adam Longlands, was recorded when Perry was 20. Among the songs on the disc is the undeniably catchy "Damn," an electro-funk jam that's part dance pop and part new wave, with bold horns, wah-wah guitar and a roller-disco vibe. On the tune, which sounds like it could be on the "Saturday Night Fever 2005" soundtrack, Perry already sounds like a star in the making when singing the hook, "Damn I can't believe it/ Damn you got me feeling good."

In the video for "Broken," the never-released single from the album, Perry channels Bettie Page as she shares the mic with Longlands, taking most of the shine on the by-the-numbers crunchy pop tune, which sounds like an Avril Lavigne castoff. The song has the same soaring chorus and aching verse structure as many of the Matrix's best-known hits.

Among the other Perry-fronted songs on the album are the mechanical new-wave tune "Take a Walk," the throbbing, sexy ballad "You Miss Me," the string-laden dramatic weeper "Just a Song" and the chick-flick-worthy midtempo tune about self-involved pop stars, "Would You Care."

"We don't want to be pop stars, and we're not releasing it on a major label," Christy reiterated. "And it's not called 'Katy Perry and the Matrix.' These are just great songs, and I'm very proud of it."

Mariah Working on "MC3" With The-Dream

Mariah Carey released her 10th studio album "E=MC2" back in April 2008 and has just released a greatest hits record titled "The Ballads" in January 2009.

Mimi is already in the studio with The-Dream working on her 11th studio album currently titled "MC3." The pair have worked together in the past. The-Dream penned her hit "Touch My Body," from Carey's last album, E=MC2; his studio partner Tricky Stewart produced the track.

While the direction of Mariah's next LP hasn't been determined yet, The-Dream said he wouldn't want to take her too far from what she's recorded in the past. He explained Carey has little latitude for failure because of her successful track record; she was the top-selling female artist of the 1990s. For that reason, alone, The-Dream said the plan is to focus on her past hits for inspiration.

"It's like we're trying to make a greatest hits without using the greatest hits," he said. "I love her, she's everything," he said of Carey. "She's down, she's cool, she gets it. You think she's this big, but she gets it. She's all the way in there. I told her we need to get back in there. It's not like it used to be where you can wait to come out with an album. I'm like, 'Let's go, let's do it!' And she's up for it."

The tentative release date is the last quarter of 2009, most likely in time for Christmas 2009.

Lady GaGa Releases "Eh Eh" In Australia

Lady GaGa has decided to release "Eh Eh [Nothing Else I Can Say]" as the third official single in Australia/New Zealand. North America/Europe will receive "LoveGame" as previously mentioned.

"Eh Eh" is to be officially released on January 31, 2009 from Australian music retail and online music outlets on February 2, 2009. "Eh, Eh" was the second most added song on Australian radio on the week beginning December 15, 2008. This song was confirmed as an Australian single on Lady Gaga's official website on January 15, 2009. An official remix was also posted on her website that day. It will not be released as the third single in North America as "LoveGame" will be their third single. Instead, it is planned to be released as the fourth North American single during summer because of it's breezy, summery sounds and beats.

The music videos for "Eh Eh [Nothing Else I Can Say]" and "LoveGame" were shot back to back the second week on January 2009 by Director Joseph Kahn in Los Angeles.

Pink 2 Release "Please Don't Leave Me"

Pink is set to release her third single from her 5th studio album, "Funhouse."

Lead single "So What" was a huge hit across the world, second single "Sober" is finally starting to burn up the charts currently sitting in the Top 20 of the Billboard 100, Canadian 100 and the UK Single Chart.

Third single up-tempo "Please Don't Leave Me" is a great choice to follow-up the moody "Sober." The music video was released on Saturday, January 24, 2009. It will be released on January 30 in Australia and March 2009 in both Europe and North America. "Sober" already had huge sales in Australia, that is why they have rushed the release over there, while Europe and North America have just started to warm up to the dark, haunting single, which makes "Please Don't Leave Me" pushed back to March.

3rd "Charlie's Angels" In The Works

Drew Barrymore says that she's up for a third "Charlie's Angels" movie.

"I'm so into it. They're hard movies to make, but they're fun" said Barrymore during promotion of her new star-filled romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You". Barrymore produced and starred as Dylan Sanders in the previous two films.

Barrymore's Flower Films producing partner Nancy Juvonen followed those comments up in an interview with Sci-Fi Wire where she indicated she's keen on the idea of a fourth 'Angel' and she has a 'Rihanna fixation'.

Who'd direct? "I don't think we could do it without McG, and I think that the Angels all at least need to be there." She also likes the idea of bringing back the Thin Man (Crispin Glover).

"Wolverine" Reshoots Reedits Entire Film

"X:Men Origins: Wolverine" still has a release date of May 2008, even with all the reshoots and edits this month.

The recent Vancouver reshoots on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will focus on one particular character - Deadpool.

Ryan Reynolds plays the Canadian mercenary who was set to originally only cameo in the project. Now it seems that role has been expanded into full-fledged supporting player with "most of the footage shot including Reynolds and Hugh Jackman."

In the comics, the character is also a part of the Weapon X program who acquires regenerative abilities derived from Wolverine himself. In the comics that operation leaves him disfigured and mentally unstable, resorting to him wearing a mask.

Publicity photos of Reynolds as the character however don't show any such mask or disfigurement though it's expected to be depicted in some way in the final film.

"Deathly Hallows" Begins Test Shoots

Harry Potter" star Emma Watson has revealed on her official site that she went in for test shoots on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" on Monday.

"I think I have a couple of costume fittings and a hair appointment to make my hair a bit browner. Not sure whether we have a couple rehearsals as well" says the actress.

Shooting is scheduled to begin shortly on the two-part final entry in the series which will be released on November 2010 and May 2011.

Britney's 3rd Single "Amy" Is Lovin The Controversy

The Parents Television Council is warning parents and radio stations not to broadcast Britney Spears' "If U Seek Amy" because the organization believes it "would violate the broadcast indecency law" if aired between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Saying the title phrase quickly out loud produces a sound akin to spelling out the F-word, says PTC president Tim Winter. "There is no misinterpreting the lyrics to this song, and it's certainly not about a girl named Amy," he says of the track, the third single from Spears' new Jive album, "Circus."

"It's one thing for a song with these lyrics to be included on a CD so that fans who wish to hear it can do so, but it's an entirely different matter when this song is played over the publicly-owned airwaves, especially at a time when children are likely to be in the listening audience," Winter says.

The controversy isn't stopping U.S. radio from playing "If You Seek Amy." Six top 40 stations have the song in rotation this week, enough to place the track at No. 92 on the Billboard Pop 100. Leading the pack is WFLZ-Tampa, Fla., which has played it 19 times.

"We're confident the version of the song we air is not crossing any lines," PD Tommy Chuck tells Billboard.com, adding that WFLZ plays not only a Jive-created edit of the song that changes "Seek" to "See" as well as a jokey version where morning host MJ shouts his name every time the word "Amy" appears.

Digitally, "Amy" has already sold 107,000 copies in the United States despite not being officially released until April 2009.

ND Plot Summer Tour Without Any Info

No Doubt has enlisted Paramore as the opening act on its first tour in five years, which will begin in May. The Sounds, Janelle Monae and Bedouin Soundclash will rotate as the third band on the bill.

Dates have yet to be announced for the Live Nation-promoted tour, which will play outdoor amphitheatres and arenas in North America. The only confirmed show so far is May 3 at New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival.

"The whole reason for going on this tour was to have fun, try on all our favorite songs again and to get inspired to make new music," No Doubt's Gwen Stefani says. "It feels good to be all together again."

In the midst of tour prep, No Doubt has been working on and off on a new studio album, a release date for which has not been announced.

I want these! If you want these they are $100US a piece of $700US for the complete set.

"Miles Away" Vinyl Single Gets A Release Date

Madonna's third and final single "Miles Away" from her 10th studio album, "Hard Candy" will finally get it's vinyl release.

Warner Music will be releasing the 2 Disc Vinyl Maxi Single edition of Madonna's "Miles Away" next month. The double LP set was originally scheduled for January 13, 2009 but has now been postponed to February 10, 2009. It comes with a catalog number of 09362-4979944 and a suggested retail price of $8.99, sporting the following tracklisting:

A1 Miles Away (Thin White Duke Remix) (6:09)
A2 Miles Away (Radio Edit) (3:43)
B1 Miles Away (Johnny Vicious Club Remix) (7:26)
B2 Miles Away (Morgan Page Dub) (7:08)
C1 Miles Away (Johnny Vicious Warehouse Mix) (8:20)
C2 Miles Away (Aaron LaCrate & Samir B-more Gutter Mix) (5:00)
D1 Miles Away (Morgan Page Remix) (7:07)
D2 Miles Away (Rebirth Remix) (7:30)

I was really hoping for a music video for this single, but I completely understand that she was in the middle of her divorce and world tour.

Also, I was really hoping to have at least one more single from "Hard Candy." I really wanted to see either "The Beat Goes On" or "Heartbeat" as the 4th single. If "Heartbeat" was released next it would have made the ideal spring single. Trees and flowers are coming back, warm spring air is back, sunshine, just imagine "Heartbeat" and an amazing summer music video. Such a shame.

"The United States of Tara" = Brilliance!

Last night saw the Canadian premiere of Showcase's "The United States of Tara." A new dramedy about a suburban mother of two with multiple personalities. Her three alter-ego's are "Buck" the Beer guzzling man, "T" the over-sexual, drug using teenager and "Annie" the 1950's housewife.

This show was so funny, so brilliant. I loved the entire episode. The only thing I didn't enjoy was realizing that the show is only 30 minutes, I wanted more!

Some of the best scenes are when Toni Collette finds the morning-after pill in her daughters backpack. She freaks out and turns into "T" and than we find out "T" was the one who went and got them for her. So basically her mother bought them for her without her knowing when she was the other alter. Brilliant!

Another really great scene is when "Buck" one of Toni's alter-ego's beats up her daughter's boyfriend outside in the school's parking lot. Toni's son gets involved and starts throwing punches and "Buck" yells out to her son "go Marsha go." This was hilarious because his name is Marshall and she's calling her son Marsha. I loved it!

Cannot wait for next Monday!
