'Harry Potter' Blasts Through $1 Billion

'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' two-week head start couldn't hold off Harry Potter's record-breaking pace: 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' passed $1 billion worldwide on Sunday, July 31.


'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' hit $1 billion on its 19th day in theatres, which tied 'Avatar's' record for fastest to reach that level. With a $1.008 billion total, Potter ranked eighth on all-time worldwide chart, ahead of 'The Dark Knight' but behind 'Alice in Wonderland.' 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' rocketed from the #19 spot to the $8 spot on the worldwide chart.


This day also marks the first time in history that the Top 10 grossing movies worldwide have all passed $1 billion in sales. Just yesterday, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' was #10 with $974.8 million.
