NBC has renewed its freshman psychological drama, 'Hannibal' starring Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishbourne for a second season.
'Hannibal' premiered to over four million viewers in April 2013. The subsequent episodes have dropped in both viewership and ratings. The most recent episodes have only garnered two and a half million viewers which is not good for a series on a major network.
NBC cancelled a record 14 series this past month. 'Hannibal' looked to be the 15th but with strong criticical acclaim and a loyal fanbase, NBC has decided to have another 13 episodes produced for the 2014 season. If paired with the right shows, it could potentially grow in its second season. I could see NBC having a dark drama night on Fridays with 'Grimm, 'Hannibal' and 'Dracula.'
Here is a list of the last five aired episodes:
05 - Coquilles - April 25 - 2.40 million viewers
06 - Entree - May 2 - 2.61 million viewers
07 - Sorbet - May 9 - 2.62 million viewers
08 - Fromage - May 16 - 2.46 million viewers
09 - Trou Normand - May 23 - 2.69 million viewers
The season finale 'Savoureux' will air on June 20, 2013.
