Fox has renewed 'The Simpsons,' the longest-running comedy in television history, for a 24th and 25th season, bringing the series total to an incredible 559 episodes by May 2014.
The current 23rd season is going to have its 500th episode in early 2012. There is no word yet whether the upcoming 25th season will be the final season, but it would be a great achievement to conclude during its silver anniversary.
This past week it was announced that 'The Simpsons' might have been cancelled after this season because of budget issues, but the voice talents and FOX were able to come to terms with negotiating new contracts. Harry Shearer, one of the voice talents recently announced that this upcoming contract would be a 'final negotiation' which speculates that the 25th season just might be the final season.
Although it would be an end of an era, 25 years is nothing to be sad over. That is still 15-18 years longer than most primetime shows.
