With the 3D re-release of 'The Lion King' almost at the $100 million worldwide mark and still climbing, Disney is readying plans to re-release four more classic films, two in 2012 and two in 2013.
Disney Pictures have decided to release two classics 1989's 'The Little Mermaid' and 1991's 'Beauty and the Beast.' Pixar will be re-releasing two of their classics, 2001's 'Monsters Inc.' and 2003's 'Finding Nemo.'
'Beauty and the Beast 3D' will begin its limited theatrical run on January 13, 2012. Which comes as a surprise because a five-disc Blu-Ray 3D combo pack was released on October 4. Originally 'Beauty' was to be released in 3D back in January 2011 but was taken off the schedule. Not sure how well it will do considering you can own the 3D version before its released to theatres.
'Finding Nemo 3D' will begin its limited theatrical run on September 14, 2012. This is a perfect choice considering 'Nemo' still has yet to be released on Blu-Ray. Hopefully this means 'Nemo' will be released to Blu-Ray for Christmas 2012.
'Monsters Inc. 3D' will begin its limited theatrical run on January 18, 2013. This works well for it because the prequel, 'Monsters University' will be released in the Fall of 2013. The resembles what they did with 'Toy Story 3,' they released the first two back-to-back in 3D before the third one. This also shows that a 3D version of 'Monsters Inc.' will be released in Spring 2013.
'The Little Mermaid 3D' will begin its limited theatrical run on September 13, 2013. This is great news for fans of one of the most beloved classics in Disney's history. It has yet to be released on Blu-Ray so it seems they will be using the same marketing they used for this years 'Lion King.' I hope this means it will be released to Blu-Ray in the Fall of 2013.
