ABC has decided to cancel its long-running medical drama, 'Private Practice' starring Kate Walsh and Taye Diggs after six seasons.
The 'Grey's Anatomy' spin-off is currently in its sixth season and it was announced back in May 2012 that Kate Walsh would be leaving the series after the initial 13 episodes. Being the star of the show, it has not come as a surprise that ABC would not go forward withouts its main star.
The series had very steady ratings for the first couple of seasons, three of which were after the 'Grey's Anatomy' lead-in on Thursdays. The fifth season was then switched to Tuesday nights at 10pm where it did not do well. This current season has not done well and the show has been coming in third in its timeslot against very little competition. With the low ratings and its star leaving it is a perfect decision to end the series. Hopefully the writers were given enough warning and will give the characters a good send off.
Here is a list of the already-aired episodes:
01 - Aftershock - September 25 - 6.45 million viewers
02 - Mourning Sickness - October 2 - 6.01 million viewers
03 - Good Grief - October 9 - 6.00 million viewers
The series will continue with episode four on October 24. The series finale should air sometime in January/February 2013.
