The CW has renewed its mega-hit drama series, 'The Vampire Diaries' starring Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder for a 5th season.
The season four premiere was watched by over three million viewers and is still holding as the network's #1 drama series on the air in both viewers and ratings. The spike in viewership from the previous two seasons is thanks in part to DVR and on-demand viewing.

09 - O Come All Ye Faithful - December 13 - 2.81 million viewers
10 - After School Special - January 17 - 2.95 million viewers
11 - Catch Me If You Can - January 24 - 2.71 million viewers
12 - A View to a Kill - January 31 - 2.56 million viewers
13 - Into the Wild - February 7 - 2.50 million viewers
No word on how many episodes will be ordered but the usual 22-24 seems accurate. The season finale will air in May 2013.
